TOUR: KAFUE’S RIVERS AND PLAINS (7 nights / 8 days)

Of all the African countries in sub-equatorial Africa region only Zambia can rightfully claim legitimate title to being ‘The Real Africa’ as proclaimed in the country’s long standing tourism board slogan.

It is a vast, relatively undeveloped country of rivers, lakes and pristine woodland twice the size of Zimbabwe to the south with a relatively low population loading.
With so much on offer it is only possible to focus on a couple of choice recommendations with enquiries open for more on travel options to do with the Kasanka National Park, Mutinondo Wilderness Conservancy comprising of pristine miombo woodland surrounded by granitic whale-backed hills and criss-crossed by crystal clear streams, Lake Bangweulu and its surrounding swamp that defeated Livingstone and the Kafue National Park and Shiwa N’gandu in the far north of this largely unvisited country as a random selection of travel possibilities.

This tour  is set within the northern extremity of the Kafue National Park, embracing the Kafue and Lufupa Rivers within a diverse mixture of riverine forest, miombo woodland, acacia and palm-strewn dambos and floodplains to the Busanga Plains.

Highlights:Mammal diversity is huge from leopard and wild dog of the Lufupa woodlands to Lion and Cheetah on the Plains and the atypically marked Defassa waterbuck of the grasslands that host both oribi and lechwe. Guided game drives in a 4X4 safari vehicle along with nature walks within selected habitats bring out the best of what Kafue has to offer.

Best Time of year:During the cooler months of June through to October.

Budget: / FI

Our suggested Add-ons:Visiting one of the other Zambia attractions as  highlighted or spending time on the Zambezi or Chobe River above the Victoria Falls for two or more days.

Truly a ‘one of kind’ adventure trail set in the remote southern section of the South Luangwa National Park. This vast wilderness area of diverse habitats and no roads or vehicles  is home to a diverse mix of mammals and many species of birds. As such it represents a truly unique exploratory experience in the company of well-qualified field guide. Each night is spent in a comfortable tented camp in keeping with explorer style and safari tradition. A single night ‘sleep out’ can be experienced at Kalamu Star-bed Camp while staying at Kalamu Lagoon Camp.

Highlights:Enjoying the overall wilderness experience in the company of a knowledgeable field guide within a tapestry of different habitat types far removed from roads and rural developments. Wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities on foot are many along with memorable nights round the camp fire under star-studded skies with only the sounds of the wild Africa for company. This is an unforgettable walking safari in the classic tradition.

Best Time of year:During the cooler months of June through to October.

Budget: / FI

Our suggested Add-ons: Visiting one of the other Zambia wildlife reserves as highlighted or spending time on the Zambezi or Chobe River above the Victoria Falls. Alternatively, if walking safaris hold outdoor appeal, linking up with another operator within the South Luangwa National Park or elsewhere in Zambia or Zimbabwe, such as Hwange National Park.
